Programs, staff remain in tact
Crown Point Central School District voters have approved a 2013-14 budget that mirrors the present spending plan. The budget, approved 97-10, maintains all existing programs and staff. There are no cuts.
State aid boost helps district
There was little drama in preparation of the 2013-14 Moriah Central School District budget. After several years of struggling to meet the state-mandated tax cap, Moriah caught a break when the state increased aid to the district. The result is a $15 million budget that was approved by voters, 238-50, during balloting May 21.
Jobs, programs eliminated, reduced
Ticonderoga Central School District voters have approved a 2013-14 budget that cuts employees and academic programs. The budget was approved, 550-382, in balloting May 21.
Voters OK spending plans
Voters have approved area school district budgets for 2013-14. Spending plans for Crown Point, Moriah, Putnam, Schroon Lake and Ticonderoga all got the OK from residents during voting May 21.
Proposed boating regulations to be discussed June 12
Area residents will have an opportunity to comment on proposed Lake George boating regulations aimed at preventing the spread of invasive species. The Lake George Park Commission will hold a public hearing on the proposed plan Wednesday, June 12, at 6 p.m. at the Best Western in Ticonderoga.
Schroon contest June 15
A 5-kilometer race will be held in Schroon Lake Saturday, June 15, to fight childhood hunger. Clare Whitney, a student at Schroon Lake Central School who met many hungry children during Mission of Hope visits to Nicaragua, has planned the second annual Corazones Y Pies 5k Race.
Money needed for 2013 July 4th celebration
Ticonderoga’s Best Fourth in the North committee is seeking assistance. The committee is in need of donations and sponsorships to support this summer’s celebration, which will be held July 1 - 4.
Legacy Park event May 26
Memorial Day will be observed by the Ticonderoga Historical Society. The society will present “Remembrances - Traditions of Yesterday” at Champlain Legacy Park in Ticonderoga Sunday, May 26, at 1 p.m.
Group to visit Europe in 2014
A Crown Point teacher recently led a group of local students and adults on a tour of Costa Rica. Jayna Andersen led the nine-day Education First adventure.
Sponsors sought for June 14 event
The Ticonderoga Chamber of Commerce is inviting the public to its annual dinner and auction. The 11th annual event will be Friday, June 14, at the Silver Bay YMCA’s Gullen Lounge. Appetizers will be served at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. The silent auction, live auction and dancing will follow.
