With North Country ballfields covered in snow, high school softball and baseball season schedules have been cut dramatically and practices have been held indoors — or on parking lots when the temperatures permit.
The Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference (MVAC) announces Scholar Athletes for the 2014 Winter Sports Season.
Jay Hebert makes it official
Jay Hebert is used to leading the field. He’s a four-time state champion and All-America in track. He’s expected to be named Ticonderoga High School valedictorian in a few weeks.
Like other districts in the North Country, MCS is feeling the effects of the GEA and hopes a solution is on the horizon.
Moriah runner sets section records
Jay Hebert is an All American. The Ticonderoga athlete earned that honor with a sixth place finish in the 60-meter hurdles at the New Balance National Indoor Track & Field Championships in New York City March 16.
New York Mills reaches state title game
The key for rivals of the Moriah Vikings in the 2013-14 boys varsity basketball season was finding a way to stop sophomore Adam Jaquish. All had, for the most part, failed — until New York Mills brought the height and quickness needed to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class D semifinals at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Mills scored a 57-24 win March 14.
A team of female athletes from Northern Warren County conquers far larger schools in tallying an undefeated record.
Four years ago, a group of North Warren Central basketball players endured a woeful 1-17 season. Undeterred, they set their sights on lofty goals, practiced hard, and now they're one of the top Class D teams in the region -- although they are from a school with quite small enrollment. The players talked this week about their odyssey to the top — and their expectations for next year.
Jay Hebert brings home the gold
Jay Hebert didn’t run his fastest time at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association indoor track and field championship meet, but he probably ran his best race.
The Lions used a 13-7 second quarter to extend an early lead to 27-20 at the half and held off a couple of Keene surges in the second half to keep the lead.
The North Warren boys basketball team continues their remarkable winning streak — after suffering deep early-season losses.
