North Creek — The Johnsburg Jaguar field hockey team will draw on the strength of several seniors and build lasting skills for future with a dozen underclassmen for this season’s matches.
“As you can see we are quite young and inexperienced, but we hope to show significant improvement as our younger players get more varsity experience,” Coach Phil Goodman said.
Goodman will share coaching duties with long-time field hockey Coach Jill Toney, who was recently named the school district’s athletic director, replacing Tim Leach, who retired in June.
“The girls are working very hard, we expect to defend well, but we need to find some scorers because we lost most of our offense to graduation,” Goodman said.
The field hockey team may only have a couple more years to play at Johnsburg Central, as the school district is starting to make a switch to girls soccer instead. This year, there will be a new modified girls soccer team coached by Cindy Homer.
“I will be having a varsity team in either 2013 or 2014, depending on the numbers,” Homer said.
